Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, affirmed that Bahrain’s healthcare system continues to advance, building on a legacy spanning more than 125 years under the Kingdom’s ongoing development drive.
He said the sector’s progress reflects the commitment of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance healthcare quality and provide the best medical services to citizens and residents.
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla made the remarks during the inauguration of the American Mission Hospital redevelopment project in Manama, which includes rebuilding the hospital and converting its historic Women’s and Children’s Hospital building, constructed in 1927, into a healthcare museum.
He highlighted the project’s importance in preserving Bahrain’s medical heritage while meeting future healthcare needs through a modern hospital equipped with the latest technologies.
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla also noted the hospital’s historical significance in reflecting the longstanding friendship between Bahrain and the United States, which began through humanitarian and medical cooperation and has since developed into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He commended the hospital’s board, executive management and medical and administrative teams for their longstanding service to the community.
For his part, Dr George Cheriyan, American Mission Hospital Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director, expressed his appreciation for the continued support of His Majesty the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He said the project reflects the hospital’s commitment to adopting the latest digital technologies and providing advanced healthcare services. He added that transforming the historic 1927 building, regarded as the region’s first women’s and children’s hospital, into a museum would preserve an important part of Bahrain’s national heritage and document the contributions of generations of healthcare professionals.
