Royal Medical Services inaugurates integrated neuroscience Centre
01/10/2025
The Royal Medical Services has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Neuroscience Centre at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) hospital, in line with its strategy to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for advanced healthcare and to advance specialized medicine through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.

Brigadier Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services, said the new centre reflects the royal directives to enhance the health system in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, marking a qualitative leap in neurological care through advanced diagnostic and treatment services.

The centre provides comprehensive services for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, deep brain stimulation, and complex neurosurgeries, supported by advanced imaging systems. It also includes dedicated paediatric units offering individualised treatment plans and family support programmes.

The Royal Medical Services has made Parkinson’s care a top priority, establishing a unified pathway from early diagnosis to advanced treatments.

In a first for Bahrain, the Neuroscience Centre has introduced a pioneering intracranial pressure (ICP) ultrasound technique, enabling rapid, non-invasive brain assessments. The procedure was successfully performed on a critical brain injury patient under the supervision of Dr. Hosam Al Jehani, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Neurocritical Care Specialist, and Head of the Neurosciences Department at the Royal Medical Services.

Specialists highlighted that the centre integrates modern technology with qualified national expertise to deliver specialised care across all age groups, with a strong focus on child neurology.

The Commander of the Royal Medical Services emphasised that the centre represents a cornerstone in developing Bahrain’s healthcare infrastructure and reinforces the Kingdom’s role as a regional leader in specialised medical care.
