Labour Ministry announces launch of "Freelancers Support Initiative" in partnership with Tamkeen
12/11/2025
In line with the continuous directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to continue national efforts to create opportunities for citizens and enhance economic development, the Ministry of Labour announced the launch of the "Freelancers Support Initiative", in partnership with the Labour Fund "Tamkeen". The initiative aims to support job seekers who wish to take up freelancing as a professional career path by encouraging them to engage in flexible and independent work models.

Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour, said that through the "Freelancers Support Initiative", Bahrainis registered as job seekers with the Ministry of Labour who have up to 12 months of experience will receive support to obtain a virtual commercial registration, "Sijili", with compensation for the registration fees. They will also receive monthly incentives of BHD 200 for 12 months, in addition to support for the Social Insurance contributions for 12 months, to help them launch and grow their freelance businesses.

Minister Khalaf added that this step comes within the framework of national efforts aimed at enhancing opportunities for Bahrainis to enter the labour market by diversifying career paths that allow job seekers to invest in their skills and capabilities and transform them into viable and rewarding business projects. This initiative also aligns with the National Labour Market Plan 2023–2026, which aims to sustain the growth of the labour market by generating more jobs across various productive sectors and opening up new avenues that support development, with the Bahraini citizen regarded as a key pillar of progress.

Eligible individuals wishing to benefit from this initiative may submit their applications through the website https://www.tamkeen.bh/programs/freelance/ starting Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
