Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, highlighted the centre’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships that harness education as a driving force for promoting peace, coexistence and understanding among peoples.
He noted that these efforts further consolidate Bahrain’s position as an international platform for dialogue and a bridge of communication between cultures and religions, in line with the Royal vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The remarks came as the centre concluded its international webinar series "From Hate to Hope: Transformative Approaches to Addressing Hate Speech through Education," held in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Arigatou International and the University for Peace. The series, launched in June 2025, included three specialised dialogue sessions.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla expressed appreciation to the international partners for co-organising the events, which gathered educators, policymakers, youth leaders and civil society representatives from around the world. He underlined the shared recognition of the pivotal role of education in raising awareness among children and youth, embedding values of dialogue, respect and shared living, while countering hate speech in pursuit of peace and prosperity.
The centre delivered opening remarks, moderated the second session on educational curricula and ethics based learning, and addressed the risks of online hate speech and its impact on children and youth. In the final discussion, it presented practical pathways to countering digital hate speech and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing innovative youth- and child-focused programmes.
The series was widely acclaimed for fostering dialogue, generating recommendations to address hate speech, and emphasising education’s role as a transformative tool to promote tolerance, coexistence and human fraternity.
