Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), commended the cooperation of a number of government and official entities in implementing initiatives under the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025–2026), particularly those aimed at supporting women of determination and women caring for persons of determination.
Al Awadhi said the initiatives reflect the SCW’s commitment to implementing the national plan through enhanced coordination and partnership with relevant entities to provide more inclusive services that respond to the needs of Bahraini women across different groups.
She noted that the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) confirmed the availability of tax exemptions and benefits related to the import of assistive and rehabilitation equipment for persons of determination. Existing legislation also provides VAT exemptions for eligible equipment and supplies, in addition to a zero percent VAT rate on basic and preventive healthcare services, approved medicines and medical equipment, educational services, and related goods and services.
Al Awadhi said these measures help reduce financial burdens on beneficiaries, including women of determination, when accessing healthcare, education, and approved rehabilitation and medical equipment.
She also highlighted measures by the Ministry of Health to facilitate and expedite the issuance of disability assessment reports through government hospitals and electronic services, contributing to faster access to services and care-related entitlements.
Al Awadhi further noted the cooperation of the Ministry of Youth Affairs in implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing access to sports and youth facilities for women of determination and women caring for persons of determination. The initiative includes making use of facilities at Muharraq Model Youth Centre and Hamad Town Model Youth Centre, which are equipped to meet the needs of persons of determination.
She said the initiatives stemmed from a consultative meeting organised by the SCW in August 2024 with representatives of civil society organisations specialising in disability-related issues. The meeting reviewed priorities and proposals aimed at strengthening national support mechanisms for women of determination and women caring for persons of determination through coordinated efforts among relevant entities.
