Batelco, BNET to deploy landing infrastructure for SMW6, Al Khaleej Submarine Cable Systems
03/11/2025
Batelco by Beyon and Bahrain Network (BNET) signed a strategic agreement for the deployment of the full landing and inland infrastructure required for the SEA-ME-WE 6 (SMW6) and Al-Khaleej submarine cable systems.
Under the agreement, BNET will deploy the critical landing infrastructure, including the construction of the sea headwall, beach manhole, and the deployment of fronthaul and backhaul connectivity on protected routes, extending from the Cable Landing Station (CLS) to the international gateway. This comprehensive infrastructure will serve as the foundation for the SMW6 and Al-Khaleej submarine cable systems, enabling seamless integration into the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national and international connectivity network.
This milestone project helps to strengthen the Kingdom of Bahrain’s role as a regional connectivity hub, enhancing international capacity, speed, network resilience, and low latency connectivity to support the increasing demand for cloud services, digital content, and next generation technologies.
Maitham Abdulla, CEO of Batelco, said that as the Bahrain landing party for SMW6, Batelco is proud to lead this milestone in collaboration with BNET. He explained that the strategic deployment reinforces Batelco’s commitment to advancing Bahrain’s digital economy and national digital transformation agenda, while positioning the Kingdom as a key regional gateway for data and connectivity.
Ahmed Jaber Aldoseri, CEO of BNET, said the partnership with Batelco represents an important example of national collaboration in shaping the future of telecommunications in Bahrain. He added that the project underscores BNET’s commitment to developing an advanced digital infrastructure that supports the Kingdom’s vision for sustainable digital transformation.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 (SMW6) submarine cable connects multiple countries across three continents. With landing points spanning from Asia to Europe, the SMW6 system delivers ultra-high capacity and low-latency connectivity to support the surging global demand for cloud services, digital content, and international data traffic.
The Al Khaleej cable, owned and operated by Batelco by Beyon, is a regional submarine network that enhances connectivity between Bahrain and neighbouring Gulf countries. Together with SMW6, it ensures seamless integration between regional and global routes, providing resilience, speed, and diversity of access.
