His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of Bapco Energies, affirmed that the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company’s (ASRY) solar energy project reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in advancing progress and prosperity, and translates His Majesty’s directives to build a future based on sustainability and innovation.
His Highness noted that the project enjoys the continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for initiatives in environmental innovation and the transition to clean energy.
This came as His Highness attended the launch of ASRY’s solar energy project, the largest of its kind in the world in the ship-repair and shipbuilding sector, implemented in partnership with Kanoo CleanMax Renewables, in the presence of ministers and senior officials.
His Highness said the project affirms Bahrain’s position among leading countries applying advanced renewable energy technologies, and highlights the Kingdom’s efforts to create a sustainable working environment that encourages innovation and supports the green economy.
He expressed pride in the project, noting that it demonstrates the ability of national institutions to adopt innovative ideas and turn them into practical initiatives that sustain resources, protect the environment, and ensure a brighter future for future generations.
Ayman bin Tawfeeq Almoayed, Chairman of ASRY, said the project is an environmental and strategic investment that reflects ASRY’s determination to support national efforts to achieve net-zero carbon neutrality and enhance energy efficiency.
He added that the initiative reflects the company’s vision of combining its leadership in industrial marine services with green innovation, reinforcing its role as a responsible entity in both environmental and economic terms, strengthening Bahrain’s global standing and supporting its sustainability goals.
Dr. Ahmed Al Abri, ASRY’s CEO, said environmental responsibility is a core part of the company’s strategy, and that ASRY is committed to launching practical initiatives that support Bahrain’s green transition.
He explained that the total capacity of the solar power plant is 22.5 megawatts in the first phase and 22 megawatts in the second. The output will exceed 36 million kilowatt-hours per year in phase one, and more than 71 million kilowatt-hours per year after phase two is completed. The project will deliver annual savings of more than two million US dollars, while improving energy use and reducing operating costs.
Ali Abdulla Kanoo, Chairman of Kanoo Industrial & Energy, said the partnership with ASRY confirms confidence in Kanoo CleanMax’s renewable energy expertise. He stressed that the initiative reflects Kanoo CleanMax’s commitment to implementing renewable solutions, helping industries reduce carbon emissions, and supporting Bahrain’s national sustainability vision, in full alignment with the Kingdom’s environmental and economic goals.
Kuldeep Jain, Chairperson and Managing Director of CleanMax, said the company is proud to collaborate with ASRY and bring its expertise to Bahrain by delivering solar solutions that enable industries to operate sustainably, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to the Kingdom’s clean energy vision.
Kanoo CleanMax is a joint venture between Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Company W.L.L. and CleanMax Solar MENA FZCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions Limited.
The project consolidates ASRY’s position as a leading maritime hub in the region and a national institution committed to building a sustainable future for the next generations, in line with the Kingdom’s green economy goals.
