Oil Minister commends establishment of Environmental and Public Health Crimes Unit

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, commended the Attorney General’s Decision (52) of 2026 establishing the Environmental and Public Health Crimes Unit to investigate and handle reports of crimes stipulated in environment and public health-related legislation committed across the Kingdom of Bahrain. He lauded the Public Prosecution’s national role in strengthening the specialised judicial system.

Dr. Bin Daina affirmed that the decision represents a significant step towards enforcing environment and public health-related legislation, contributing to the protection of natural resources, wildlife and marine resources, as well as beaches, coastlines, groundwater and surface water, thereby preserving Bahrain’s environmental resources.

He clarified that establishing a specialised unit to investigate and handle environmental reports and follow up on related cases before the courts will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of prosecuting environmental violations and strengthen investigative capabilities and the technical collection of evidence in cases of a specialised and technical nature.

The minister added that the initiative reflects continued efforts to support national sustainable development strategies. He affirmed the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE)’s commitment to strengthening integration and strategic partnership with the Public Prosecution and all relevant entities to develop joint working mechanisms and implement environmental legislation in accordance with the highest standards.

Decision (52) of 2026 aims to build specialised judicial expertise and define the Unit’s responsibilities for handling reports and crimes affecting the environment, natural resources, wildlife and public health across the Kingdom. Its responsibilities also include following up on cases before the courts, preparing statistics, monitoring emerging crime methods, and proposing measures to combat them and the necessary legislative developments.
