Education Minister announces new name for UNESCO-King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for Digital Learning and Innovation

Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Education Minister, congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, following UNESCO’s approval of the new name for the prize established in honour of His Majesty.

The approval was granted by UNESCO’s Executive Board. Beginning with its next edition, the prize will be known as the UNESCO-King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for Digital Learning and Innovation for the next six years.

The minister said the new name reflects the rapid developments in the education sector and the demands of the modern era, particularly advances in artificial intelligence and digital learning. He expressed his sincere gratitude to His Majesty for endorsing the new name and approving the necessary procedures in coordination with UNESCO to achieve the prize’s objectives and ensure its continued global reach.

Dr Juma also highlighted the international achievements of the prize, established in partnership with UNESCO, since its launch and through the conclusion of its latest edition in 2026. He noted that educational projects submitted over the years had helped extend access to educational services to more children and students deprived of education or affected by political, social and economic circumstances.

The minister affirmed that the new edition would make an even greater contribution to the development of education worldwide and promote a culture of quality in educational practices.
