Dr. Samah Al Ajawi elected to IEA Standing Committee, representing Bahrain’s Ministry of Education

The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) has elected Dr. Samah Mohamed Al Ajjawi. Assistant Undersecretary for Education and Learning Policies Development at the Ministry of Education, to its Standing Committee at its 67th General Assembly, held recently in Poland.

Dr. Al Ajjawi welcomed her election, saying that representing Bahrain’s Ministry of Education on the committee reflected international recognition of the capabilities of national education professionals and Bahrain’s contribution to international decision-making in educational assessment.

The seven-member committee includes the association’s president, from Denmark, and representatives from the Czech Republic, Jordan, Ireland, Chile, Spain and Bahrain. Dr. Al Ajjawi’s election secured Bahrain’s representation on the committee, which oversees the work of both the association and its secretariat, providing strategic direction and supervision.

The IEA oversees the implementation of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), two internationally recognised assessments of student achievement in mathematics, science and reading literacy. The association has 69 member countries.
